Steampunk Machine Pistol by Challenger70TA Steampunk Machine Pistol by Challenger70TA
I made this gun for my Steampunk Confederate costume that I wore at AWA 2010.

I modeled the gun off of a 1895 Mauser automatic pistol. The body and grip is carved from one solid piece of pine. The grip was fine sanded and stained while the body was smoothed with bondo and finished in matte black. The barrel is PVP plastic as is the drum magazine. The rest is assorted bits of aluminum and brass.

I wasn't wild about it either, that's why I completely tore it down to bare wood and made the Needler Pistol out of it.

If only this could be made into a working gun and then mass-produced. Then I would buy two. But I would still buy one of these, anyway.

Well this one was the very first attempt I ever made at a hand held gun so it was very crude and I never really ever showed it. I recently tore it completely apart and am in the process of turning into some bigger and better for my Steampunk Mad hatter costume. Should have some pictures posted this weekend.

Nice work I thought that I recognized the style of the pistol. The broom handle pistol grip is beautiful and shaped like the real deal. What is the reason for the offset barrel?
Is this weapon steam powered, electric powered or pneumatic? Have you designed any other weapons?

Interesting. Looks like the sort of sidearm Captain Nemo would carry when away from the Nautilus. :)

I dig this - a completely awesome prop, love the gloss on the grip and the oversized-looking drum - though the way the half of the barrel towards the muzzle brake doesn't line up with the rest of the barrel bothers me a little.

I love this because unlike many Steampunk guns, it actually looks functional and realistic. Well done.

aww, well I also didn't get to wear that costume as much as I would have liked. It was actually a whole lot warmer that the butler costume, and on that particular day in Atlanta, 20 oz wool was not fun ;p

BTW they also made me zip tie it at AWA LOL

The security ppl I ran into first actually called for the head of security to give the OKAY before they tied it....They didn't believe me when I told them it was made of wood...they thought it was a-non firing replica.

Looks pretty good. I'd consider giving the barrel and body a brass finish, and add on some random gears or nick-nacks, but I suppose that's all down to personal taste.

NO ur right, I'm still considering painting the barrel brass, but I can't find a paint that I feel look realistic enough.

Krylon makes a paint called "Hammered copper". I used that and some REALLY high gloss gold for turning cheap squirt guns into highly concealable steampunk deathrays. :D

Since it's been a year, I hope your design turned out well! :)

hmm, try and mix a few gold and copper or brown paints together, try to get a coppery looking paint. That should work.
