Do to unforeseen circumstances, I.E. unbearable reoccurring stomach pain caused by either my gall bladder, an ulcer or IBD, I won't be making AWA this year. I am hugely disappointed because I really wanted to enter my Steampunk Mad Hatter into this years costume contest. Guess it will have to wait till next year Before I can enter it into the contest. Right now, I am currently sitting in bed still suffering from the most recent 3 day long episode of stomach cramps (this is the 4th episode in the past month) and not being able to eat or even walk around with out serious doubling over pain. This all started about a month and a half ago when I thought I had gotten food poisoning and was laid up in bed for 4 days, unable to eat with terrible stomach pain. I knew it wasn't that when the exact same symptoms arose a week and a half later. There was no way I could have made the drive from Myrtle Beach, SC to Atlanta, GA, (nearly 6 hours) in my current condition although I did consider it many times. I hope all my friends have a good time this year and know that I will be wishing I was there ALL weekend long. My next con that I will be attending will be Teslacon in late November. Teslacon is consider the be the best Steampunk convention in the country and is very different from the typical "meet and greet then lets go to a panel" convention. It is a total immersion event filled with over 100 actors who's job is to make every guest feel like they are in the world of Steam, if only for a weekend. I was fortunate enough to be asked to write a script for one of the sketches that will be performed throughout the weekend....very exciting! Hopefully by then these "doctors" will figure out what is wrong with me and fix it so I can go about my daily business without fear that the cramping will start up again and prevent be from doing the simplest of tasks. Currently from when this all started to now I have lost a total of 20 pounds.....if I loose anymore I can guarantee my costumes will no longer fit!
AWA 2011 Here and Gone...What a Weekend!
So AWA 2011 came and went. Even though I tried to make the weekend last as long as possible, by not sleeping, it still flew by at an amazing speed. Friday seemed to cruise by before I knew what happened. I was a little disappointed since I could swear I had more fun on last year's first day than this year. Saturday made up for this however, as I had an even better than in 2010. I pretty much wore my Steampunk costume the entire weekend although I switched out for Sebastian for a couple hours on Saturday. Much to my surprise Steampunk Confederate was an even bigger hit this year than Sebastian was last year. I got to meet a lot of new and inte
AWA 2011 Here we come!
I will be attending AWA again this year after such a wonderful time at it last year. Due to lack of funds I was not able to make it to Dragoncon as I had hoped. Instead I will be showing off my steampunk Confederate Airship Captain's costume at AWA in the "Original Characters' portion of their costume contest. So if your there and follow my work and are there, look for me! My Sebastian costume will also be going along since it was such a big hit last year with everyone. Unfortunately, it is an absolute PAIN in the ass to get into and do the makeup and hair for, plus I gained alil weight since then and hope it still fits. (the things I do for
Graduation Time
Its been forever since my birthday in November. That was the last time I wrote in my journal, but I SWEAR I have a good reason. I've been pretty much working non-stop since, writing my Graduate Thesis in History and working part-time. My thesis topic is, "Late Nineteenth & Early Twentieth Century Personal Transportation Tech and How it Brought about an End to the Victorian Era."
Long title I know but equally LONG time that I I have involved in it. Should be finished with the rough draft by the end of this week, roughly 65 pages. My turn in deadline to my advisors is March 28th and I have set a Thesis Defense date for April 6th 3:00PM at the
Halloween and a reluctant birthday
So, we are in the last week before Halloween and I have to say I am very excited. This is by far my favorite time of year where I can dress up and not be questioned as to why! WOO! FREEDOM!
Anyway, this week I, along with several other Graduate Students in History at the College of Charleston, will be giving ghost tours of the campus Tues, Wed and Thurs nights. I really enjoy this and it gives me a couple more nights of costuming....pretty sure I'm breaking out Indiana Jones for one night ;)
This weekend will consist of several parties some private and public. With Halloween falling on a Sunday that means three nights of costumes WOO! Might
